The next big iPhone event is set for September 12. Here’s what Apple is expected to announce.
It’s official. September 12th is the date for the next big iPhone event. Apple is expected to announce a number of new iPhones and Apple Watches…as well as some surprises.
It’s that time of year when Apple rumors fly thick and fast. We’ve rounded up the latest rumors of all the new Apple gadgets that could get released next week and before the end of the year.
What’s Going to Get Announced at the September 12th Event?
Below, we round up the next-gen devices that Apple is set to announce at its upcoming iPhone event on September 12th.
The iPhone 15/15 Plus and iPhone 15 Pro/Pro Max

The iPhone 15/15 Plus and iPhone 15 Pro/Pro Max
Apple is expected to announce four iPhone 15 models: a 6.1-inch iPhone 15, a 6.7-inch iPhone 15 Plus, a 6.1-inch iPhone 15 Pro, and a 6.7-inch iPhone 15 Pro Max. These new iPhones will all have thinner bezels, upgraded cameras, and a USB-C charging port instead of a Lightning port. Non-Pros will now have access to Dynamic Island, which was previously exclusive to the Pros. And the Pro Max is expected to get a new zoom lens, meaning for the first time in a few years Apple’s two Pro iPhone models will have different camera capabilities.
Apple Watch Ultra

Apple’s most premium Apple Watch, the Ultra, was one of the standout new products from the last year — and Apple expected to announce a second-generation Apple Watch Ultra this fall. It’s not expected to be a huge upgrade, granted, but it’s expected to get a new processor (called S9) and be available in a new “space black” finis.
Apple Watch Series 9 and SE (2023)

The upcoming Series 9 and SE are expected to look pretty much the same as the last several models (aside from the Ultra), meaning most of the upgrades will likely be internal. Apple is expected to give each of these Apple Watches a new S9 processor for superior performance and (hopefully) improved battery life. There’s speculation that Apple could give the Series 9 the dual-frequency L1 and L5 GPS that is currently in the Ultra, which would give it more accurate fitness tracking abilities.
AirPods Pro with USB-C Charging

Apple is expected to release a USB-C charging case for its AirPods Pro.
Just like the new iPhones, Apple is going to start shifting its line of AirPods away from the Lightning charging port. According to Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman, Apple is set to announce a USB-C charging case for its newest line of AirPods Pro. It’s expected that you’ll be able to buy this charging case separately or new AirPods Pro with a USB-C charging case.
iPad mini (2023)

Apple hasn’t released a new iPad Mini in nearly two years so the tiny tablet is overdue for an update. If it does release a new iPad mini, don’t expect a drastic redesign as most of the upgrades will be internal. It’s expected that this 7th-generation iPad mini will get a new A16 processor (same as the iPhone 15 line) and thinner bezels.
The iPad Mini (7th generation) could be announced at Apple’s event in October or November.
iPad (11th-generation)

The most recent entry-level iPad (10th-generation) was released in October 2022.
Apple has released a new entry-level iPad every year since 2017 so it’s a good bet that it will release the 11th-generation model before the end of the year. There haven’t been many rumors to back this up, however, so we’ll have to wait and see. If Apple does release a new 10.9-inch iPad, it’ll probably be at its October/November event.
M3 MacBook Pro and M3 Mac Mini

Apple is apparently working on an M3 version of the Mac Mini.
According to Mark Gurman’s latest “Power On” newsletter, Apple is working on M3 versions of the Mac mini and 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro. They could be announced as early as this October, but it’s more likely that Apple will announce them — as well as the M3 chip — in early 2024.
M3 iMac

It’s been nearly two years since Apple announced its colorful 24-inch iMac, which was completely redesigned around the M1 chip, and it’s rumored that Apple is working a new and improved version of its all-in-one desktop. The new iMac will likely look very similar to the 2021-released iMac (Apple rarely gives two big design overhauls in a row), but with an updated chipset. The latest rumblings are that Apple will skip the M2 chip entirely and give the new iMac its upcoming M3 chip.
According to Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman, Apple could unveil its M3 chipsets before the end of 2023 or in early 2024. At that time it’s likely that Apple will introduce this updated iMac.
M3 iPad Pro

The most recent M2 iPad Pros were released in October 2022.
Apple is rumored to be working on new iPad Pros that will be powered by its upcoming M3 processor and boast OLED displays — they’ll be the first iPads tablets to have an OLED display. However, according to Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman, these new iPad Pros aren’t likely to get announced until next year.
AirPods Max 2

It’s been a few years since Apple released its first over-over headphones, the AirPods Max, and naturally, there’s been quite a bit of speculation regarding when new models could be announced and what upgrades they could have. Unfortunately, the rumor isn’t exactly turning quickly for second-generation AirPods Max. The one bit of information we do have is that, as first spotted by Patently Apple, Apple filed a patent that could bring haptic controls to the next AirPods Max; this means you’d be able to tap or swipe the earpads for playback control, which may mean that Apple could remove the digital crown that’s on the current AirPods Max.
According to Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple is working on next-generation AirPods Max but they aren’t expected to be announced until late 2024 or even early 2025.
HomePod mini 2

Just like the second-generation AirPods Max, don’t expect an imminent release of a second-generation HomePod mini. According to Ming-Chi Kuo, you can expect the next iteration of the HomePod mini to get announced in 2024. It’s likely that the new smart speaker will keep its $99 price point, but gain a few of the latest full-sized HomePod’s features, including its ability to spatial audio and Dolby Atmos.
