Making a list of our favourite alcoholic beverages in 2020 kinda feels a bit douche, especially if you consider that the country is having a bit of a dry spell with the lockdown on any and all alcohol sales.
But, here at Dude Awesome, we are nothing if not hopeful that the light at the end of the tunnel is our favourite watering hole switching on its neon lights and luring us back to imbibe to our hearts content.
This can also serve as a shopping list of what you need to make the next lockdown (please Bachus no!) a little more bearable. A surviving lock down acceptably buzzed list if you may. Here’s our list of alcoholic beverages that got us through 2020! Cheers!
Beer
Of course we are gonna start with beer. Sure, you might like Castle Light or Windhoek or Black Label, whatever get’s the job done there bucko. But that’s not what we were after in 2020. We wanted to try some of the exceptional, the hard to find and the little bit out there.

Wine
In 2020 we stopped worrying about how we drink wine. It might be because we got to a point where we were raiding our emergency stock and all we had left was a very questionable Chardonnay or we just decided it doesn’t matter, as long as you drink it. Also, we were saving jobs damn it!

This is a simple headline
This is a vintage that captures the class and finesse chardonnay is known for in traditional sparkling wines all over the world. Notes of white floral and intricate notes of citrus peel, quince and grapefruit rise to the surface in a fine, vibrant mousse. Pinot Noir adds palate weight to balance the vibrant Chardonnay acidity, complete with a chalky minerality that adds to the length. Pure sophistication.

Roku Japanese Gin
Roku is the premium Japanese craft gin created by the House of Suntory in Osaka, Japan. Crafted by Japanese artisans with meticulous attention to detail, Roku is the perfect balance of flavours. The 6 Japanese botanicals are combined with 8 traditional gin botanicals – juniper berry, coriander seed, angelica root, angelica seed, cardamom seed, cinnamon, bitter orange peel, and lemon peel – for an authentic gin taste. Cherry blossom and green tea provide a floral and sweet aroma. Complex and multi-layered, with the harmonious flavour of various botanicals. Traditional gin taste in the base, plus characteristic Japanese botanical notes with yuzu (Japanese citrus fruit) as the top note. Smooth and silky texture. The crisp Japanese sansho pepper brings a little spiciness to the finish.
Rum
Although most people associate rum with cocktails—especially brightly hued beach bar drinks—you’d be wrong to pigeonhole the spirit. The rum category is one of the most complex and diverse spirit categories in the world. Rums can be light and cocktail-ready; they can be dark and sweet; they can be as rich as scotch or Cognac. And they can certainly be sipped solo. Here, some of the most drinkable rums on the planet—all of which can (and should) be enjoyed neat.

Tequila
Margaritas, body shots, Pee-Wee Herman’s signature bar-top dance—tequila is responsible for all of these things. It’s also the national spirit of Mexico, which happens to be the only country allowed to produce it. In Mexico, tequila has always enjoyed a prominent place in history and at the table. The U.S., on the other hand, has had a more tumultuous relationship with the spirit. Over the years, tequila has gone from hangover-inducing shooter to craft cocktail ingredient to smooth sipper. Year after year, tequila sales in the U.S. have risen and the selection of high-end brands continues to grow. Tequila’s future is so bright, we have to wear sombreros.
Clase Azul Reposado Tequila
Clase Azul Reposado is an ultra-premium reposado tequila made with Tequilana Weber Blue Agave that is slow-cooked in traditional stone ovens for a minimum of 72 hours. Once the agave reaches a deep, rich flavour, it is fermented with proprietary yeast before distillation. Once the tequila is distilled, it is aged for 8 months in hand-selected bourbon, cognac and sherry oak barrels. This process results in a superb, smooth taste which exceeds expectations with each sip. The bottles are hand made and individually hand-painted by Mazahua natives in Santa Maria Canchesda.

Leads with bright agave character and finishes with the soft floral notes of Cabernet.
Fortaleza Tequila Blanco Tequila
Fortaleza Tequila is a small batch, hand-crafted, 100% blue agave tequila from Jalisco, Mexico produced by the fifth generation of Sauza family. It is made at the family’s distillery using the same production methods that were used 150 years ago. The agave used in the making of Fortaleza Tequila is from the heartland of Tequila Valley. They are very sweet and mineral-rich, and are hand picked to ensure optimum maturity and ripeness. The unique, traditional recipe used in production of Fortaleza slow cooks the agave to allow them to release their rich flavours fully. Fortaleza uses bespoke bottles, each individually hand blown in Jalisco, which means each one is different, the same way it was done 150 years ago.
